In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. The cake recipe part is fine, but it's not a true red velvet cake if it's frosted with buttercream frosting. A true red velvet cake will always have a cream cheese frosting! RVC is a cake with either a dark red, bright red of red-brown color.

Instructions to make Red velvet cake (RVC):
  1. Mix flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, salt in a bowl mix and set aside
  2. Cream butter and sugar in a separate bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in eggs and beat one at a time, add oil, buttermilk, white vinegar and mix well
  4. Add flour mixture to the liquid mixture and mix properly, add the red food colour until it turns extreme red while mixing. Pour over prepared pan and bake in a preheated oven at 180°_200° for 30-35min. (I didn't snap d final red cake batter that was the initial colour from d picture below)
  5. Ready

A true red velvet cake will always have a cream cheese frosting! RVC is a cake with either a dark red, bright red of red-brown color. It is traditionally prepared as a layered cake topped with cream cheese. I have made his cake "a million times" using different recipes. By far, I have achieved the best results using a recipe by Stephanie Jaworski of joyofbaking.
